Doc Rivers confirms Joel Embiid is dealing with thumb injury

Joel Embiid will play in the Sixers’  potential series-clinching Game 4 vs the Toronto Raptors Saturday. In the latest pre-game presser,  Doc Rivers confirmed the MVP candidate is dealing with discomfort in his right thumb.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski, the superstar center will get an MRI once the 76ers get back to Philadelphia. Doc Rivers did not confirm ligament damage in Embiid’s thumb.

His intention is to play through it and undergo an MRI, when he returns to Philadelphia, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Sixers have the chance to close out the series vs Toronto with a win Saturday evening. Embiid is entering Game 4 averaging 27.7 points and 13.0 rebounds in the first three games.

He hit the winning shot in Philadelphia’s OT victory in Game 3 of the series. He had 33 points and 13 rebounds, helping the 76ers rally from a 17-point deficit to a 104-101 win in the extra time.
