DeMarcus Cousins blasts Sacramento Kings: “What did Sac do for me?”

DeMarcus Cousins did not hold back on his former team as he blasted the Sacramento Kings in a recent interview in Andscape’s Marc J. Spears.

The current backup center for the Denver Nuggets holds the city and its people in high regard, he doesn’t have many kind words to say about the Kings themselves.

“What did Sac do for me? Besides say my name [draft day],” Cousins said. “I did more for them than they did for me. That’s just being honest. Just being 100% honest.

I had two owners, three GMs, seven coaches in seven years. I was there seven years. I had three GMs, two owners and seven coaches. Not much more needs to be said.”

The Kings traded Cousins after seven seasons with the franchise. He was the fifth overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft. The Kings traded Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2017 All-Star break and he spent a season and a half there.

He never got the payday he expected to get with multiple foot injuries derailing his career. He bounced around the NBA in the last two seasons before reuniting with Mike Malone, who worked with him in Sacramento, in Denver.

Despite regretting his choice to workout with Sacramento, Cousins cherish the moments and what he accomplished on the court in Sacramento.

“I put the time and work in,” Cousins, who averages 8.9 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Nuggets, said. “I hold many records there. I honestly think I’m the best player to ever come through Sacramento. And I stand on that, absolutely.”

For now, the veteran big is facing one of his former teams, the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are leading the series 2-0 after cruising to a blowout victory vs the injury-plagued Denver.
