Chicago Bulls‘ season came to a close, but, DeMar DeRozan made a clear favorable statement for his co-star Zach LaVine in the aftermath of the Game 5 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
“Max player, max talent, max everything,” DeRozan told reporters when asked if LaVine deserves to receive a max contract extension this summer. LaVine will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
“He’s one of those players in this league that you don’t see too often. I tell him all the time how envious I am of the things he’s able to do. He deserves everything that’s coming to him,” DeRozan continued.
LaVine wasn’t on the court in Game 5, missing it because of the NBA’s health and safety protocols. However, DeRozan hope to have him by his side next season.
LaVine is eligible for a five-year, $210.5 million max extension this summer if he re-signs with the Bulls. He had a solid season with the team alongside DeRozan averaging 24.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists this season.
The Bulls can go over the cap to sign him despite having more than $100M accounted for on their active roster cap for next season. The Bulls finished a successful season despite their underwhelming ending to their year.
Chicago finished with 15 losses in the last 22 games, while they had three consecutive losses in the first-round series vs the Milwaukee Bucks.
