The Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey stated Doc Rivers will be back next season as the team’s head coach. Tim Bontemps of ESPN and Kyle Neubeck of Philly Voice reported the news first.

The Sixers are coming off a disappointing second round exit after losing the Eastern Conference semifinal series to the Miami Heat with 4-2. The Sixers faced adversity this season due to Ben Simmons saga, who was traded to the Nets for James Harden in February.

Rumors around Rivers’ future with the organization surfaced, with Lakers being among the team’s interested to hire the veteran coach if he part ways with Philadelphia. Rivers led the Sixers to the Top-5 of the Eastern Conference in two consecutive seasons.

He replaced Brett Brown two years ago to bring the championship pedigree to a team. However, he’s unable to get past the second-round of the playoff falling to Atlanta and Miami each season respectively.

Rivers has gone 100-54 in his two seasons in Philadelphia, but a 13-11 record in the postseason has led to frustration among the Sixers faithful. The Sixers have gone all-in by bringing James Harden in Philadelphia.

They will need to shake things up in order to become a true contending team.
