Darius Garland and the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a rookie max contract extension that will keep the young guard with the franchise long-term.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the deal between the two sides is for five years, worth up to $231M.

This is the richest deal in Cavaliers’ history and comes after a breakout year for Darius Garland. The No. 5 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft averaged 21.7 points and 8.6 assists last season, while being named an All-Star for the first time.

Garland is supermax eligible if he makes one of the All-NBA’s first, second or third teams twice.

Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star guard Darius Garland has agreed on a five-year, $193M maximum designated rookie contract extension that could be worth as much as $231M, @KlutchSports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN. It is the largest deal in franchise history. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) July 2, 2022
