Damian Lillard to be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks; Simons wants to stay in Portland

Damian Lillard has progressed through the initial phase of his rehabilitation, and he will be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks, the team announced Sunday.

Lillard is recovering from an abdominal surgery. He will begin the reconditioning phase of his rehab protocol next week and will be evaluated in few weeks.

Lillard played his last game on Jan.1. He decided to go through the procedure as the Blazers were away from presenting a championship team.

The Blazers are obviously not in a hurry to see Lillard back, as they’re hoping to secure a high lottery pick. Lillard was averaging 24.0 points, 7.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds through 29 games.

Anfernee Simons wants to stay in Portland

Anfernee Simons is the biggest plus in the Blazers’ disappointing season. Simons is amidst a career-year and he will be a restricted free agent in the coming summer.

He could command an expensive deal with as the combo guard is averaging 17.1 points and shooting 40.3% from 3 this season. Both part of his across-the-board career highs this season.

However, the promising guard express his willingness to stay and help the Blazers build a contender around Damian Lillard.

“I 100% want to stay in Portland,” Simons told Ben Pickman at Sports Illustrated. “And I think everybody wants me to stay as well. I think it’s a perfect fit for me.”

Simons obviously wants to continue with the Blazers, who are holding the 10th place at 25-35. They gave up many veteran pieces during the trade deadline, as they look to build for the near future.
