Damian Lillard defends Russell Westbrook: “His career and legacy is undeniable”

Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard appeared in a podcast recently to talked about his team, his willingness to remain in Portland and criticism on Russell Westbrook.

Westbrook joined the Los Angeles Lakers via trade last summer. His homecoming was derailed by the team’s struggles and Westbrook questionable fit with the rest of the Lakers’ roster.

Currently, Westbrook is averaging 18.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.2 assists for the 31-43 Lakers. Lillard spoke out about Russell Westbrook, claiming that the point guard’s “career and legacy is undeniable”.

“Westbrook’s career and legacy is undeniable. That’s just the bottom line,” Damian Lillard said, via Club Shay Shay. “The player, the career he’s had what he’s accomplished, the things he’s done, nobody else has been able to do it.”

Westbrook won MVP and made the NBA Finals in the past. He became the first player ever since Oscar Robertson to finish a season averaging a triple-double.

“Like with all these triple doubles, I don’t care if you stat chasing or whatever people want to say. If I try to go every game and get a triple double for a whole season, I can’t do it.”

Russell Westbrook is not the only reason the Lakers’ team is playing subpar. The team is lucking shooting and consistency, having to face injuries through the season.

Anthony Davis appeared in 37 games so far after going down with a foot injury in February. Davis will likely be available to return the next week at the earliest.

Westbrook has been playing well the last few games. He’s averaging 21.2 points on 52 percent shooting from the field and 46 percent from deep during the last 5. He also adds 8.6 assists and 8.2 rebounds per game.
