Clint Capela expected to miss at least 1 week of action ahead of Hawks-Heat series

Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela will likely miss at least a week of action, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. Capela was diagnosed with a hyperextended knee after he underwent an MRI today.

Capela left Saturday night’s 107-101 victory over Cleveland after a collision in the second quarter when Cavaliers center Evan Mobley fell against Capela’s leg after the Swiss center committed a flagrant foul on the rookie center, who was falling down.

Woj reports that Capela will be re-evaluated in one week but he could miss a significant part —if not all— of the opening-round playoff series against the Miami Heat. Capela is an important part of the Hawks’ fragile defense.

His injury struggles this season were the main reason Atlanta had one of the worst defenses in the league during the regular season. Capela has averaged 11.0 points, 11.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks this season.

The Hawks and Heat play Game 1 on Sunday and Game 2 on Tuesday in Miami, with Games 3 (Friday) and 4 (April 24) in Atlanta. The Heat are coming in the series with the best record in the East (53-29).

MRI on Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela's right knee revealed no structural damage and he's expected to be evaluated again in a week, sources tell ESPN. He will clearly miss significant time in this Hawks-Heat playoff series, if he's even able to return before it's over. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) April 16, 2022
