LeBron James expressed his willingness to play again for the Cleveland Cavaliers someday. However, the Cavs may not be so eager to sign James, according to NBA insider Marc Stein (h/t to Bleacher Report).
James, who has had two separate stints with the Cavaliers during his career, told Jason Lloyd of The Athletic that the “door’s not closed” on him returning eventually.
Cleveland has recently returned to prominence in the East with a roster headlined by Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.
LeBron is considered one of the biggest figures in the history of sports in Cleveland. He took the Cavs to four consecutive NBA Finals, and in 2016, he led the way as Cleveland won its first and only NBA championship.
The current Lakers’ superstar initially left the franchise for the Miami Heat in free agency in 2010 after a seven-year run in Cleveland. He led the team to its first Finals’ appearance in 2007.
He then left again in 2018 to join the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are two years removed from James and Anthony Davis leading them to an NBA championship. James is amidst his fourth year in LA.
Since the Lakers have been in the midst of a disappointing season so far (27-31), there are several rumors suggesting that LBJ could leave the Lakers in 2023.
If James does leave, Cleveland could be an attractive landing spot since it is his home, and the Cavs are a team on the rise.
The Cavaliers have been one of the NBA’s most pleasant surprises this season, as they are 35-23 and tied for third in the Eastern Conference.
