Chris Paul is getting ready for his return shooting in Suns’ practice; timeline remains same

Chris Paul has started shooting the ball despite fracturing his right thumb on his shooting hand before the All-Star break. Since mid-February, the Suns have announced that the veteran superstar will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks.

Paul was getting up shots with the right thumb in a small wrap after Friday’s shootaround as the Suns expect to face Toronto Friday night (h/t to Duane Rankin).

Based on the original evaluation of the injury, the “Point God” was likely going to return right around the end of the regular season, before the playoffs or during the first round.

With a 53-13 record, Phoenix has already clinched a playoff spot, and they are not seem capable of losing the first seed in the Western Conference.

The 12-time All-Star suffered the injury in the second half of a Feb. 16 victory against Houston before the All-Star Game.

The Suns’ superstar averages 14.9 points and a league-best 10.7 assists through 58 games this season.

Phoenix has played eight games without the superstar guard so far, while Devin Booker also missed several contests after entering health and safety protocols.

Phoenix has a 5-3 record after Paul’s injury. They will remain at the top of the NBA with the best record. The Suns did not announce any change to the initial timeline.

Paul, who led the Suns to the NBA Finals last season, is a four-time All-NBA First Team member. A seven-time NBA All-Defensive Team member and part of the NBA 75th anniversary team.
