Chris Paul goes for 30 points; leads Suns past Pelicans in Game 1

Chris Paul made a stellar performance in Game 1, leading the Phoenix Suns past the New Orleans Pelicans (99-110).

The superstar guard scored 30 points (19 of them in the fourth quarter) and dished 10 assists in the game. Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton added 25 and 21 points, respectively, for the winners.

On the other hand, CJ McCollum had a team-high 25 points for New Orleans, while Jonas Valanciunas posted a monster double-double of 18 points and 25 rebounds.


The Suns never trailed in the game. They led by as many as 23 (42-65) and were in control from start to finish.

For their part, the Pelicans cut the deficit to seven twice in the second half (69-76, 73-80). Yet, Chris Paul took over and scored consecutive points to seal the deal for Phoenix.

Game 2 will take place in Arizona on Tuesday, with the Suns leading the series 1-0.
