Phoenix Suns veteran superstar Chris Paul put up another masterclass in Game 3 of the series vs New Orleans. He scored 28 points, with 15 of them coming in the fourth quarter, to carry Phoenix to a 114-111 victory Friday night.
Deandre Ayton added 28 points and 17 rebounds to help the top-seeded Suns take a 2-1 series lead. Paul also had 14 assists to add another great performance in this season’s playoffs.
The Suns took their biggest lead, 66-53, early in the third quarter. However, Pelicans cut the deficit to two (81-79) at the end of the third quarter. McCollum, who finished with 30 points, was the catalyst for the hosts during that stint.
Jose Alvarado kept the Pelicans in it in the fourth with seven consecutive points, but Paul answered with five straight points and an assist to tie(90-90) with 6:32 left. Paul then had eight consecutive points for a 98-93 lead.
Brandon Ingram had a game-high 34 points. Game 4 is Sunday night in New Orleans. The Suns expected to play again without Devin Booker, who is sidelined with a strained right hamstring.
“You can’t replace everything that Devin does for us, so it’s going to be different spurts where guys get going. DA (DeAndre Ayton) kept us in this game in order to bring it home down the stretch,” said Paul.
