Boston Celtics upgraded Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart to probable ahead of the Game 3 of EC semis vs the Milwaukee Bucks. Celtics’ head coach Ime Udoka announced the news earlier today.
The game will take place in Milwaukee Saturday. The two teams split their first two games with one win apiece. The Celtics bounce back from a Game 1 loss in an emphatic way without Smart.
The 2022 DPOY, who missed six games because of the quad injury in January, played through the injury in Game 1. However, he was unable to go in Game 2 because of the fluid building around his knee.
Derrick White has stepped up in his place in the Celtics’ Game 2 86-109 victory on Tuesday. Payton Pritchard also filled in with six points as he saw his minutes going up in Smart’s absence.
In five playoff games in the 2022 postseason, the Celtics’ guard averaged 15.2 points. 6.8 assists and 3.4 rebounds per contest. He shot 39.7 percent from the field, but his defensive contribution was huge for Boston in its five wins in this season’s playoffs.
