Celtics to retire Kevin Garnett’s jersey Sunday vs the Mavs

Boston Celtics will retire Kevin Garnett’s No.5 jersey in the home game vs the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

Garnett will become the 24th Celtics player to have his jersey retired and No.5 will be raised to the TD Garden rafters.

“I’m just trying to soak it up, being honest, I’m trying to be very humble. I don’t know. I’m just it’s all a shock to me, you know what I mean?

When kids come up to me and they express their appreciation for different things. I don’t really know what to say other than, ‘Thank you’.

I just stayed true to what I was and who I was. It was the easiest thing to do. I didn’t want to be something I wasn’t,” Garnett said in a recent interview, via NBA.com.

The NBA Hall of Famer spent six seasons with Boston (2007-2013) and led the franchise to the 2008 NBA championship.

Before joining the Celtics, Kevin Garnett played for the Minnesota Timberwolves (1995-2007). In 12 seasons with the Wolves, he led the team to the playoffs eight times.

The 15-time All-Star and 2004 NBA MVP also played for the Brooklyn Nets (2013-2015) before retiring as a Minnesota player in 2016.

For their part, the Celtics have their sights set on making a deep playoff run this season. They currently are fifth in the East (41-27), four games below conference leaders Miami Heat (45-23). Boston hasn’t won an NBA championship since 2008 and last played in the Finals in 2010.
