Celtics’ Robert Williams is “physically ok” ahead of Gm 3 vs Warriors

The Boston Celtics big Robert Williams had an injury scare during Game 2 of the NBA Finals when he went down with an apparent hit. He stayed down for a while, but, Ime Udoka confirmed Tuesday that the defensive big is physically well.

Williams played just 14 minutes in the blowout loss to the Warriors. He scored 2 points, recorded 2 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots. That came after getting 24 minutes of play in Game 1’s comeback victory.

Ime Udoka revealed that Williams staying down for a little while was largely precautionary and that he exited Game 2 “okay physically.” With that in mind, he’s expecyed to be cleared for Gm 3 action.

“He’s okay. He was more scared than anything, honestly. Said he took the hit in that knee, more so stayed down to make sure he was okay. Once he got up and started running, he was fine. No difference,” Celtics’ head coach Ime Udoka said.

After a breakout regular season with the Celtics, injuries have limited Williams throughout the playoffs. He remained in the injury report for most of the postseason games and he was a game-time decision for most of them.

Prior to the playoffs, Williams went through a knee surgery to repair an injury issue and since then, he went through many ups and downs despite being an important part of the Celtics’ defensive schemes.

“Just adding a little more technique, a little more thinking to the game. Obviously, like you said with the injury that I have, not being as explosive as I normally am. A little more physicality, using my body a little bit more,” Williams said on the adjustments he made in the postseason.

Game 3 of the Finals is set for Wednesday night in TD Garden, Boston.
