Celtics return to title contention amid impressive streak

Boston Celtics have, very quietly, been the revelation of the season. In the start of the season, nobody would place a bet on them and the first games showed the team would struggle for a place in the playoffs.

With a 10-10 record in the first 20 games and 25-25 after 50, there were no expectations for this year. Since early January, the franchise kick started an impressive 20-3 record to move to an outstanding 45-28.

Jason Tatum lifted the burden and created a great offensive duo, alongside Jaylen Brown. Adding the creativity of Marcus Smart and the great defensive performances of Robert Williams III, the team has now climbed to fourth in the Eastern Conference.

During that impressive stretch, Boston has relied on defense. Conceding just 103,8 points per game, the Celtics have the best defensive line in the league.

Being only one game behind the Milwaukee Bucks (45-27) and having a less challenging schedule than the reigning champions, they can only look for a higher place.

Tonight’s home game vs the Utah Jazz is Celtics’ best chance to prove they are top tier this year and simultaneously extend their winning streak to five games.

Boston has lost only once in the last 10 games (9-1). Should they keep the same pace, even the first place in the East is within their reach.

After a long time, the Celtics have returned to title contention this year. They have a team with clear roles, great teamwork and humble superstars.

And without any obligations to get the championship, everyone is doing the job without extra pressure on their shoulders. If Boston secures five more wins in the next nine matches, then a top two push is a feasible option.

With the Eastern Conference being very challenging this year, the Celtics have showed they can go back to where they belong.

With that in mind, Boston has its sights set on returning to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010 and winning their first championship since 2008.
