Boston Celtics entered the fourth quarter down 12 with 12 minutes to go and came back for a stunning victory over the Golden State Warriors in Gm 1 of the NBA Finals series.
According to NBA.com, the Celtics shot an effective field goal of 88.6 percent in the final quarter of the game, when Boston outscored the Warriors 40-16 that included a 20-2 run.
The Celtics saw their superstar Jayson Tatum shooting only 3-of-17 from the field but having 13 assists, with Horford (26), Brown (24) and White (21) finishing as Boston’s top scorers in the game.
Horford and White hit some huge shots in the fourth quarter, while Brown became the main initiator for the Celtics, with Golden State double-teaming Jayson Tatum and denying him the ball.
During the fourth quarter barrage, the Celtics shot 15-for-22 (68.2%) from the field, 6-for-10 on 2-point shots and 9-for-12 from beyond the arc. 20 of the Celtics’ 21 total 3s in were assisted in Game 1 having 76.7% assist rate of their field goals.
On the other hand, the Warriors shot just 25 percent (2-8) from beyond the arc in the last quarter in contrast to a six made threes in 13 healthy attempts during the third quarter, where they outscored Boston 24-38.
For Boston, it will be tough to maintain this kind of numbers in Game 2. However, the Warriors will need to do better in defending their three-point line in Sunday’s contest, which is expected to be a crucial one for the series.
