Cavs’ Collin Sexton cleared for full basketball activities after missing season with injury

The Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton is ready to get involved in full basketball activities after playing just nine games last season before the team shut him down for the season last November, Shams Charania reports.

For Sexton, who is a restricted free agent this offseason, a clean bill of health means that he can feel confident that he will receive a lucrative offer this summer. For Cavs, Sexton being back will give the FO a clear indication that they need to keep the scoring guard.

Sexton will be eligible for a contract extension, and he’s expected to attract interest as a restricted free agent. The Cavs will be able to match any offer, but it’s unclear if they are willing to offer Sexton a lucrative deal.

Cleveland is coming off a strong season, where they ended up with a winning record for the first time since 2018 and the first time without LeBron James. The last time a winning season not involving LeBron happened was back in 1998.

Darius Garland had a breakout year, while rookie Evan Mobley and dynamic center Jarrett Allen shined as the starting duo of the front line, with Cavs entering the conversation for a top-5 sometime during the season.

Injuries at the end of the season saw the Cavs droping in the play-in places, losing to the Brooklyn Nets and the Atlanta Hawks. They hope to remain healthy next year and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
