Bradley Beal says a lot of players trying to recruit him ahead of free agency

Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal has some big decisions to make this offseason. The three-time All-Star has a player option for the 2022-23 season in his contract with the Wizards and must decide to stay or opt out.

If he opts out he will become a restricted free agent. On Saturday, at a ribbon-cutting event in Washington, Beal spoke with the AP’s Noah Trister about his future with the Wizards and his health after undergoing a wrist surgery.

He missed the last three months of the season due to the wrist issue, but he’s ready to get back on court and he will be at full health in the Wizards training camp. Beal admitted that many players started the recruiting efforts this summer.

That was made clear when Beal was asked how many people have tried to recruit him to their teams.

“A lot,” he said. “You know I can’t give you names.”

The Wizards’ guard had season-ending surgery to repair a torn ligament in the wrist. On Saturday, he said recovery was going well, and he has back 80-90% of his range of motion. Beal has spent all 10 seasons of his NBA career in Washington.

He has played 645 games with the Wizards, averaging 22.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. He is eligible to sign a five-year, nearly $248 million max deal with the Wizards. He would only be able to sign a four-year deal worth roughly $184 million with any other team.
