Bismack Biyombo had to make an important announcement Friday as the Phoenix Suns’ big will use all of his 2021-22 salary to help construct a hospital in DR Congo.
A native of Congo, the veteran big lost his father to COVID-19 complications last summer. Francois Biyombo recovered from the illness initially, but he passed away later at age 61.
The Suns’ big explained the situation around health care system in Congo during the video he uploaded via his foundation.
Biyombo was an unrestricted free agent last summer after the 2020-21 season. His contract with the Charlotte Hornets expired in his second stint with the franchise.
He signed a 10-day contract with the Phoenix Suns during the 2021-22 regular season. He eventually remained with the franchise, signing a deal for the rest of the season.
Over 22 games in the 2021-22 Regular Season, he has averaged 6.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 0.8 blocks, 0.7 assists, and 0.5 steals per contest.
Biyombo played for many teams through his NBA career, starting with the Charlotte Hornets. He also had stints with the Raptors and the Orlando Magic.
