Ben Simmons not expected to be back for Nets in regular season

Ben Simmons could be back in action after the end of the regular season, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Simmons is facing a back issue that has backtracked his progress since his trade to Brooklyn. He last played in June for the 76ers vs. the Hawks in the post-season.

The three-time All-Star is only doing “light shooting” and he will not be able to play in the remaining games of the Brooklyn Nets in the regular season.

“Certainly, not the regular season, Woj said. “There got four games left in Brooklyn and he’s only doing light shooting on the floor. He’s trying to work himself back from that back injury.”

Simmons sat out the regular season through the trade deadline, being fined nearly $20 million by the 76ers.

He is recovering from a lower back injury suffered sometime after the February 10 trade. It’s since been diagnosed as a herniated disc.

The Nets are a lock-in for the play-in, and they make out of the tournament as the seventh or the eighth seed.

As a result, he’s also not expected to be available for the play-in games. Simmons received an epidural injection two weeks ago.

That helped him feel better and follow the team to road trip to Miami and Atlanta. The Nets really need Simmons’ defense in the team’s equation.

The Nets are sitting at 40-38 being ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference. They have four games remaining against Houston, New York, Cleveland, and Indiana.
