Ben Simmons might not make Nets’ debut on March

Ben Simmons might be away from his return to the court after suffering a setback during his rehab process.

ESPN reported (h/t to New York Post) Wednesday that Simmons is “week to week” and might not even debut this month. Simmons arrived from Philadelphia in the trade deadline after being part of the deal that sent James Harden to Philly.

Simmons has not played yet, after sitting out for personal reasons since the start of the 2021-22 regular season. The former DPOY runner-up was hoping to be available for the matchup against the Sixers on March 10, but the odds are not on his side.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania told Pat McAfee on Monday that the three-time All-Star will need to “strengthen” the affected area of his back. However, there is “hope and optimism” he will be able to join his new teammates on the floor before the end of the regular season.

In the meantime, Kevin Durant is ready to make his return to the Nets’ lineup tonight against the Miami Heat. Durant has been sidelined since Jan.15, after spraining his left MCL.

The Nets were 27-15 and second in the Eastern Conference when Durant went down. Since Jan. 16, Brooklyn has gone 5-16 after Tuesday’s loss to the Raptors.
