Bayern Munich, ALBA Berlin advance to German BBL semifinals

FC Bayern Munich had to rely on Nick Weiler-Babb to initiate a comeback and the Bavarians slipped past Niners Chemnitz 80-87 in an OT thriller. Bayern forward Nihad Djedovic hit two big-time shots in OT to put the game away.

Bayern cleared Niners in three games and they will face Bonn in the German BBL semifinals starting next week. Nihad Djedovic was once again there for FCB when team needed him the most as he finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Bayern had six players in double-digits, with Weiler-Babb scoring a team high 19 points for the EuroLeague powerhouse. Isiaha Mike was the leading scorer for Chemnitz with a game-high 24 points.

The fellow EuroLeague and German powerhouse ALBA Berlin swept Brose Bamberg with three blowouts to advance to the semis. ALBA cruised past Bamberg with 103-70 in the latest game and the Albatrosses will face Ludwigsburg in the semifinals.

Oscar da Silva and Maodo Lo were Berlin’s best performers 14 and 13 points, respectively. Da Silva grabbed four rebounds and sank two of his three 3s. Lo was 3-of-4 from deep and dished out ten assists for a double-double.

The Albatrosses sunk 19 of their 34 three-pointers, so they shined with  56 percent from distance. Bamberg only made eight of its 30 three-point attempts from beyond the arc. The Berliners will meet Ludwigsburg next Thursday in Game 1 of the semifinals.
