Anthony Davis says Lakers title window with LeBron James is “very short”

Los Angeles Lakers started the 2021-22 regular season with high expectations after adding another All-Star player alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

However, things have not been going according to plan so far this year. Anthony Davis has faced several injuries setbacks, Russell Westbrook did not fit with the current Lakers’ team, and the LA franchise is now fighting for its place in the play-in.

LeBron could be considered the only bright spot for the Lakers, being among the leading scorers in the NBA and putting up some great performances in the process.

Davis, who is recovering from a foot injury, told reporters on Sunday that the Lakers title window with LeBron James is getting very short.

“Very short window,” Davis said. “We don’t know how long he has left in this league. Phenomenal player, future Hall of Famer, and to be able to play alongside him, you want to take advantage of it. We did the first year. Last year we both were banged up, and then this year, it’s [injuries] again but more so me.”

The 37-year-old future Hall of Famer has one year left in his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. After he won the title with them in 2020 ”bubble”, James has seen the team finishing in the play-in conversation for two consecutive seasons.

“He has another year left with the Lakers … and then who knows? I don’t know what he’s going to do. So, we got this year and next year to try to take advantage of that and get another ring out of it,” Davis claimed.

The Lakers are not set up to make another championship run in the near future. Even if they make it out of the play-in tournament, they are not equipped with the personnel to make a deep run in the postseason.

LA sits 9th (29-39) in the Western Conference holding a 2-8 record in the last 10 games. Their play-in spot is not secured with 11th seeded and 12th seeded Blazers and Spurs lurking just outside the Conference’s Top-10.
