Anthony Davis out at least four weeks with foot sprain

Anthony Davis will miss more than four weeks of action, because of a foot injury he is dealing with.

The superstar of the Los Angeles Lakers suffered the injury in the game vs the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. Davis immediately left the game and went to the locker room for further examination. He had X-Rays that came back negative.

However, the Lakers confirmed on Thursday that Anthony Davis will miss at least four weeks with a mid-foot sprain. In addition, the Lakers noted the medical staff will re-evaluate the superstar big man after that four-week period.

It is likely Anthony Davis will miss more than a month before he is ready to return. With 24 games left for the Lakers, the 2020 NBA champion could miss almost half of them. And this is another issue the Lakers need to overcome to reach the postseason.

Currently, they are ninth in the Western Conference standings with a 27-31 record. They are six games behind sixth-placed Denver Nuggets (33-25) for the direct qualification for the playoffs.

At the same time, the Portland Trail Blazers (25-34, 10th) are just 2,5 games behind the Lakers.

Anthony Davis has appeared in 37 games for Los Angeles this season. He is averaging 23.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. That said, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel now has two options to cover the absence of the big man.

He will either rely on veteran centers DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard to cover the gap or will play small ball. In that case, LeBron James will play the 5 for the majority of the game. Yet, Los Angeles will need to bring in another big man to help James at the center position.

Overall, the injury of Anthony Davis is bad news for the multiple time NBA champions, who need to find a solution soon. If the rest of the roster doesn’t step up, then the Lakers will be in serious trouble. And that could cost them their presence in the play-in tournament.
