Anthony Davis will likely miss 4-5 more weeks due to a right mid-foot sprain, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
It’s already been a little over a week since Davis went down. If there is no further setbacks, the superstar big could be back around Mar.25, while five weeks could push back his return to Apr.1.
The Lakers are at 27-32 after their loss to the Clippers Friday night. The team ranked ninth in the West, hoping to avoid the play-in tournament this season.
Davis missed time also during December and January with an ankle sprain. He experienced an injury-marred season again after last year, where he played only 36 of the available 72 games.
Until Davis gets back, the Lakers will once again be forced to keep on fighting for a playoff spot without their star big. Through 37 games this season, Davis averages 23.1 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 35 minutes per game.
Dwight Howard will play a big role in coming weeks with AD out. The veteran big put up 14 points and 16 rebounds in the 105-102 loss to the Clippers Friday night. He also had three blocks, one assists and a steal.
The Lakers will need to amp up their play for the remaining games of the regular season. They’re 7.5 games out of the sixth seed that leads them directly to the playoffs.
The Lakers will return to action Sunday to face the New Orleans Pelicans, who are coming off a big win over the league-leading Phoenix Suns.
