Anthony Davis could be back in action early in April

Anthony Davis is progressing well and if everything goes as planned, he could be back in action early in April, Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported Thursday.

McMenamin refers to the latest update as the earliest the Los Angeles Lakers big could possibly return. The Lakers need Davis back for the postseason, but, they will have to go through the play-in tournament first to make the playoffs.

The Lakers struggled to adjust without him at first, going 2-9 out of the All-Star break, but, they found a rotation suitable to play better in the last five games. Davis has been out since suffering a mid-foot sprain against the Jazz on February 16th.

However, the Lakers went 4-11 without him, putting their postseason hopes in danger. The LA franchise went 18-7 with James and Davis healthy in the last two postseasons. That’s the reason the franchise believes can still make a deep playoff run if they’re healthy.

McMenamin notes that if the superstar big does come back the first week of April, he’ll have limited time to get into game-shape. Davis’ possible return could help the Lakers assure themselves of some gloss of playoff basketball.

Before all that, the Lakers will have an important challenge Sunday playing against the 10th-seeded New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans lost to the Spurs last night, and they will need to bounce back with Lakers being one game ahead of them.
