Allen Iverson has been a great inspiration for young aspiring athletes around the world. In a recent interview, AI talked about his career, his motivation and his legacy as an NBA player.
He was asked about what player in today’s game he reminds him of him. The Philadelphia 76ers legend said Ja Morant is closer to him attitude-wise.
“Not game-wise. But attitude? I would say Ja Morant,” Iverson said, via NBA.com. “He has no fear and you can tell he has an attitude of not being cocky but confident. He just sent a signed jersey to my crib, too, so we cool.”
Iverson recently uploaded a picture with Ja Morant’s jersey draped around Iverson’s MVP trophy with the caption “Sooner or Later”.
Morant, who is expected to miss two weeks of action due to knee soreness, is having an excellent season with the Memphis Grizzlies leading them to no.2 of the Western Conference.
Allen Iverson, who was elected to be part of the NBA 75th year team anniversary, has received a ton of love from current day’s NBA superstars including two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Iverson spent just two years in Georgetown before moving up to the NBA as the first overall pick of the Sixers in 1996.
The 2001 MVP winner took the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers the same season. The Sixers were the only team to take one game from a star-studded Lakers roster headlined by Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant that season.
Iverson did not only influence the on-court culture of the NBA, but also, the off court culture of the NBA as the fearless competitor he was. Now, he reaps the fruit of his success as one of the most respectable players in the history of the league.
