ALBA Berlin prevails over Merlins Crailsheim in German Cup Final

ALBA Berlin was crowned the German Cup winners for 2022 after getting past Merlins Crailsheim (76-86).

The Albatrosses, led by Maodo Lo, won the cup for the eleventh time in club history. ALBA was able to get a 10-point (60-70) lead early in the fourth quarter to edge its opponents.

Lo scored ALBA’s last nine points to keep his team afloat and lead it to the glory. This is the second title with the German Cup winners for Lo, who was also a big factor in ALBA’s championship run last season. Lo was also named Cup’s MVP as his team returned from a 16-point (37-21) deficit to claim the victory.

Crailsheim saw TJ Shorts exploding for 30 points and tying his personal best for the season. As for ALBA, Lo was the leading scorer, while Oscar Da Silva added 14 points and eight rebounds.

MVP of the Game: Maodo Lo finished with 20 points, scoring ALBA’s last nine to secure the German Cup victory. He had a big three in the last minute of the game to seal the deal for Albatrosses.

Key of the Game: ALBA outscored Crailsheim 15-25 in the third quarter, with Jonas Mattisseck and point guard Jaleen Smith scoring 18 of those points

After its triumphant win in the Cup Final, ALBA is holding the record for the most titles in the history of the competition.

The Albatrosses will look to carry the momentum in the EuroLeague next week. The Berliners will travel to France to face LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne Friday.
