Zalgiris rolls past Panathinaikos in EuroLeague rescheduled game

Zalgiris Kaunas collected its third victory in the row after getting an 83-96 victory over Panathinaikos in Athens.

The contest was a Round 18 makeup game. The Lithuanians took a 10-29 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Panathinaikos was able to cut the lead to 14 (72-86) points with five minutes to play, but, they could not complete a comeback.

The 96 points were the second-best offensive performance for Zalgiris this season. They improved to 6-19 with its second consecutive season. Panathinaikos dropped to 7-18.

Egdaras Ulanovas had a big night in Athens scoring 22 points, while Joffrey Lauvergne followed with a double-double of 17 poins and 12 rebounds. Nemanja Nedovic was the leading scorer for the hosts with 23 points.


“Most important was that we won today. We are last in the standings this season. Nobody wants to be last. Hopefully, this will be a huge boost for us to go even higher,” Ulanovas said after the game.

MVP: Edgaras Ulanovas scored a career-high 22 points. He added four rebounds and two assists.

Key of the game: Zalgiris finished the first quarter with a 1-14 run to take a 19-point lead early.

Zalgiris will travel to Berlin to face ALBA Thursday. Panathinaikos remains at home to face Olimpia Milano for Round 28 of the competition.
