Courtney Vandersloot scored 18 points to help the Chicago Sky edge the Minnesota Lynx 88-85. Vandersloot hit the winning shot at the buzzer and Meesseman scored 15 points, while Candace Parker had 13 for their winning side.
Chicago inbounded in the frontcourt with 7.6 seconds to go. Vandersloot attempted to drive the right side, was stopped and handed off to Emma Meesseman, got the ball back and hit the winning shot from about 25 feet.
Jessica Shepard and Kayla McBride scored 15 points each for the Lynx (5-14). Sylvia Fowles had 12 points and Moriah Jefferson 11. The Sky had an 81-70 lead with 4:10 to go in the fourth quarter, but Shepard led a 9-0 run for Minnesota.
Although the Lynx never took the lead, they evened the game at 85 with 7.6 remaining on the board. However, Vandersloot hit the miracle shot to lead the Sky to the win. With this win, the reigning champions improved to 13-5.
Courtney Williams scored 17 points and the Connecticut Sun defeated the Atlanta Dream 72-61 on Sunday. The visitors held Atlanta to one field goal in the final seven minutes of the game as Atlanta finished with just 33 percent shooting from the field.
Thomas had 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Sun (13-6). Alyssa Thomas grabbed 10 rebounds along with her 15 points and DeWanna Bonner added 12 points. Aari McDonald had 17 points and Rhyne Howard scored 12 for Atlanta (8-10).
The Sun outscored the Dream 20-5 in the second quarter to build a 39-22 halftime lead, while only hit two of their 20 three-points. However, they shot 42 percent from the field doing enough to win the game in Atlanta.
