WNBA: Sky dominates Liberty for first win of the season

Dana Evans scored 15 points, Rebekah Gardner added 14 and the Chicago Sky cruised past the New York Liberty 83-50. The Sky limited its opponents to 20 percent shooting in the first half to take a 36-17 lad at the intermission.

Candace Parker added 11 points and Emma Meesseman scored 10 for the Chicago Sky (1-1). Han Xu, the tallest player in the WNBA at 6-foot-10, scored 10 points for New York (1-1). Sabrina Ionescu was held to two points.


Tina Charles had a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds and the Phoenix Mercury beat the Seattle Storm 97-77 on Wednesday night. Skylar Diggins-Smith added 19 points and six assists for the winning side.

Seattle was without star Breanna Stewart due to health and safety protocols, and Phoenix was missing center Brittney Griner, who is being detained in Russia. Phoenix (1-1) will play at Seattle (1-2) again on Saturday.


Rookie Rhyne Howard scored 21 points and  the Dream slipped past the visiting Los Angeles Sparks 77-75. Howard made five of Atlanta’s 13 three-pointers in the game to lead her team in scoring.

Howard also grabbed eight rebounds. Megan Walker added 11 points for Atlanta (2-0). Canada scored 19 points for Los Angeles (2-1). Nneka Ogwumike had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
