With Nneka Ogwumike rebounding her own miss with 7.3 remaining and hitting the winning shot, the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Minnesota Lynx 85-83. Ogwumike finished with 16 points for Sparks, who are on a bit of slump, winning just one of their last seven.
Chennedy Carter led the Sparks (4-6) with 20 points, while Liz Cambage added 15 points and Katie Lou Samuelson 13. Sylvia Fowles and Aerial Powers both had 15 points as the Lynx (2-7) came back from a 17-point deficit.
They tied the game twice but Ogwumike came up with the biggest play at the end after Rachel Banham’s jumper with 26.6 seconds remaining pulled Minnesota even. Prior to the contest, the Lynx retired WNBA and team’s legend Seimone Augustus’ No. 33 jersey.
Jewell Loyd scored 22 points, and the Seattle Storm decimated the New York Liberty 92-61 on Sunday. That was the seventh loss in the row for New York with the Storm beating the Liberty for the second time in three days.
Breanna Stewart had 14 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists for Seattle. Jantel Lavender had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Seattle, which was missing three players due to the health and safety protocols.
Kristy Wallace had 17 points and the Atlanta Dream beat the visiting Phoenix Mercury 81-54. The 28-point margin of victory was Atlanta’s largest since 2015 when they defeated the Sparks by 30.
Erica Wheeler scored 16 points, Cheyenne Parker had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Rhyne Howard had 12 points with six assists for Atlanta (5-3). Diamond DeShields was the only Mercury player to score in double figures finishing with 23 points.
Skylar Diggins-Smith (19.2 ppg) and Diana Taurasi (16.0 ppg) combined for nine points on 3-of-17 shooting for the visiting side, who dropped to 2-6 as they could never recover from Atlanta’s 50-23 lead at the half-time.
