Breanna Stewart scored 29 points and the Seattle Storm gave up a 16-point second-half lead before beating the New York Liberty 79-71 in overtime. Stewart scored 13 of his 29 after the third quarter, sending Liberty to their 6th straight loss.
Jewell Loyd finished with 21 for the Storm as she and Stewart had to cover for Sue Bird, Ezi Magbegor and Stephanie Talbot, who missed the game due to health and safety protocols.
Stewart made 6 of 8 from the free-throw line in the final 2 minutes of the fourth quarter and then hit a 3-pointer to give Seattle (4-3) the lead (70-67). Briann January added 11 points for the Storm.
Natasha Howard led New York (1-6) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Han Xu added 12 points, while Rebecca Allen and Stefanie Dolson each scored 11.
Kelsey Mitchell scored 22 points and the Indiana Fever held off the Los Angeles Sparks 101-96 on Friday night. That was the first win for interim head coach Carlos Knox. Indiana (3-7) fired coach Marianne Stanley on Wednesday.
Stanley led the Fever to 14 wins in the last two seasons. Friday’s victory snapped a five-game losing streak for Indiana. Danielle Robinson had a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists.
Robinson made two free throws with a minute left to give Indiana a two-possession lead, and she added two more at 20.1 after the Sparks came back from down 18 to cut the lead to 95-93 late in the fourth.
NaLyssa Smith and Victoria Vivians each scored 17 points for Indiana. Nneka Ogwumike scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Los Angeles (3-6). Liz Cambage was held to 13 points on 2-of-11 shooting.
