After becoming a champion in the French league, a few days ago, Chris Jones is joining Valencia Basket, the Spanish club announced Monday. Jones has joined the Liga Endesa semifinalists on a one-year deal.
The 29-years-old guard is the first signing for Valencia ahead of the 2022-23 campaign in the EuroLeague. The player comes from LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, with which last Saturday was proclaimed champion of the French League.
Prior to ASVEL, the Texas native has also a one-year stint with Maccabi Tel Aviv during the 2020-21 season. He also played in Turkey, Belgium and Switzerland before making the jump to the EuroLeague in 2020.
He averaged 13.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game for the French club in the 2021-22 EuroLeague. Valencia returns to Europe’s top competition after a one-year absence.
The club was offered a wildcard for the upcoming season following the suspension of Russian teams. Valencia Basket reached the EuroCup semifinals and lost to Virtus Segafredo Bologna, a team that won the competition’s trophy last May.
The Spanish club has already parted ways with Mike Tobey and Louis Labeyrie. They are expected to create a roster capable of competiting in the EuroLeague and Chris Jones is the first step towards this direction.
