UNICS Kazan has officially given permission to team members to depart the club due to the Russian invasion to Ukraine and the safety worries around travelling, per Eurohoops.
After hours of waiting for permission to take off, the team did travel for the EuroLeague game against Olimpia Milano that was to take place on Mar. 1.
A lot of players will not return to Kazan as they had already packed and have permission from the club. Yesterday, EuroLeague announced that the four Russian clubs have been suspended indefinitely.
Considering the uncertainty around the situation, UNICS decided to allow all team members to leave until further notice.
“We will leave everyone free, at least until the situation settles down. Unfortunately, the situation is complicated. And we, in Kazan, are much farther from Kiev than many other teams,” UNICS GM Claudio Coldbella said, per Repubblica (h/t Eurohoops).
