Tornike Shengelia reportedly close to re-signing with Virtus Bologna

Tornike Shengelia was reportedly closing to a deal with FC Barcelona. However, that’s not the case anymore, according to Marca.

The superstar forward will likely re-sign with Virtus Bologna, where he ended up after abruptly leaving CSKA Moscow as soon as the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army began.

He is averaging 12.4 points and 6.3 rebounds in the Italian League and 7.5 points and 5.7 rebounds in the EuroCup, in which he will play the final after having eliminated Valencia Basket this week.

With Russian clubs likely being away from the EuroLeague for the time being, Virtus Bologna will have the chance to qualify for the EuroLeague next season even if they do not win the EuroCup Final.

Shengelia, 2.06 meters and 31 years old, was a very desirable piece for many EuroLeague sides including FC Barcelona according to Marca. The Spanish outlet revealed Barca had a preliminary deal with the Shengelia, but, they did not elect to activate the deal.

The agreement with the Italian side would be multi-year, and Shengelia would receive 1.8 million euros for each season. It remains to be seen if the forward will return to the EuroLeague next season.
