Tornike Shengelia announced his departure from CSKA Moscow, protesting against Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, per Georgian outlet Commersant (h/t Eurohoops).

According to Eurohoops, Shengelia has not made any decision regarding his future, per his agent Nikos Varlas. The Georgian power forward is under contract for one more season with the EuroLeague giants.

The member of the 2017-18 All-EuroLeague First Team, former Baskonia captain, and Georgian international moved to CSKA before the 2020-21 season. Shengelia spent much of his pro career in Spain playing for Valencia and Baskonia.

Despite being under contract, the power forward has decided to leave Russia with one year remaining in his contract. He has averages of 12.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks per contest this season.

Shengelia has been sidelined with a leg injury in recent weeks. Prior to that, he played 15 games with the team famously associated with the Russian army.

CSKA did not play against Bayern Munich on Friday due to the situation in Ukraine. The same is expected to be decided for the game vs Barcelona Sunday.

EuroLeague decided to move games against Russian clubs to neutral venues. Despite the agreement of the 18 clubs committee, Zalgiris Kaunas is determined to skip future games vs Russian clubs.

UNICS, Zenit and CSKA did not play in EuroLeague Round 27. CSKA was among the favorites to win the title this season.
