Utah Star superstar center Rudy Gobert confirmed Thursday he’s committed to play in the EuroBasket this summer with the French national team. Gobert went through a process of questioning his participation due to a knee.
Once he went through an MRI to confirm there’s no damage in his knee, he announced his availability in an interview with French media outlet L’Equipe. Gobert experienced a short postseason in the NBA after the Jazz eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks.
France is placed in Group B at EuroBasket and will take on Lithuania, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary and Germany. The competition will take place between 1-18 September.
The Utah superstar is a regular presence in the French NT being part of the group during the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The France won a Bronze and a Silver medal in those two competitions.
“It’s been a few days that it’s been clear in my head,” he said via L’Equipe. “The process took some time. If I listened to myself, I would still be 200 percent to go, but in recent years I’ve had a few breaks because of knee pain,” Gobert told L’Equipe (h/t to hoopshype.com).
