Two of the best shooters during the EuroLeague season will collide in Belgrade this week as FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will battle for a place in the competition’s Final. The two arch rivals have many interested matchups to present in their front-court and back-court.
Real Madrid forward Fabien Causer has been an important part of Los Blancos offense due to his shooting ability as he’s the one to open the court for the rest of the team. Causer hit 45.5 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc this season.
He averaged 3.4 three-point attempts per game through 26 EuroLeague games putting up 8.3 points per contest. Causer had the chance to be open several team due to Madrid’s strong post presence with Poirier, Yabusele and Tavares.
Los Blancos’ frontcourt has been constantly attracting double and triple teams in offense leaving Causer open in the perimeter. As a result, the veteran forward shoot the ball on an excellent clip from beyond the arc as Real was second in 3PT attempts with 27.1 per game.
Kyle Kuric has experienced a similar situation in FC Barcelona this season. In a star-studded roster, Kuric shined as the sniper, who was taking advantage of the attention the stars of FC Barcelona were attracting every game.
FC Barcelona was the leading team in three-point makes with 9.3 per game. In a similar way to Real, FC Barcelona sometimes used its star power namely Nikola Mirotic and Brandon Davies as a decoy to create open perimeter shots for Kuric.
As a result, Kuric shot an excellent 41 percent from deep using every part of his ability in shot making like coming off screens or shooting open standing threes. The Indiana native put up 8.3 points per in 35 EuroLeague appearances.
Kuric has been steadily a force to reckon the last four seasons, with the Catalans having an average of 3.5 attempts on 45.2 percent from beyond the arc in 135 EuroLeague games. Both Causer and Kyric production will be vital if the Clasico rivals want to succeed in Belgrade.
