EuroLeague finalist and ACB champions Real Madrid has parted ways with veteran guard Thomas Heurtel, the team announced. Heurtel played for one season in Madrid after joining the Whites last summer.
Minus a brief showing in the ACB Playoffs, he was out of the rotation since April and was expected to leave the Spanish powerhouse in the offseason. His 12th season in the EuroLeague, Heurtel played his best basketball in the early months of the 2022 campaign.
He registered 9.0 points, 4.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.6 steals per contest over 27 appearances. During the second part of the regular season, the Whites dropped from the top of the standings and eventually finished with the fourth seed.
They swept Maccabi Tel Aviv in the playoff and moved towards their second Final-4 appearance in four years. Heurtel had no participation in the last three months of the season and saw his team completing a successful season from the sidelines.
At the domestic level, Heurtel put up 8.3 points, 4.2 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.5 steals per game in Spain’s Liga Endesa. Real Madrid ended beating FC Barcelona in ACB finals to claim the title.
