Pau Gasol made some interesting statements about the head coach of Barcelona, Sarunas Jasikevicius, and his time as coach of the Catalans.
Gasol called Jasikevicius his friend and stated the Lithuanian coach should do some self-analysis and self-criticism to improve. He is also hopeful Jasikevicius will remain head coach of Barcelona for many years.
“It is clear that in the case of Barca, having finished first in the regular season of the EuroLeague and the ACB, with the team he had, he was expected to have won at least one of those two titles.
Without a doubt, you have to see them [mistakes] and study them and learn from them so that next year you have a better chance of winning.
Saras seems like a great competitor to me, I think he’s a very good coach. Now it’s time to do a little self-analysis and self-criticism and think about what you can build from now on so that next season ends with better feelings,” Pau Gasol told Mundo Deportivo.
Despite being the best team in the regular season in both the EuroLeague and ACB, Barcelona failed to win both titles.
In the Final Four, they lost to Real Madrid in the semi-final, while they also lost to the “Whites” in the ACB Finals (3-1). The Catalans won only the Spanish Cup back in February.
As a result, Sarunas Jasikevicius received a lot of criticism for the disappointing ending to the season, however he will remain with the club.
Barcelona will make several changes to its roster, aiming to claim all titles next season. Brandon Davies and Nigel Hayes-Davis will leave the club, while the same is expected to happen with Nick Calathes.
In addition, Tomas Satoransky and Jan Vesely are set to sign with the club, along with big man Oscar Da Silva.
