Real Madrid has a 0-4 record in ACB and EuroLeague this season. Prior to his team’s departure for Belgrade, Real Madrid head coach Pablo Laso talked on Real’s ups and downs through the season and the matchup vs Barcelona.
“I understand that a month ago you thought that we were not candidates. We have never stopped believing that we were candidates to win the Euroleague,” Laso said (h/t to Eurohoops.net).
Laso stressed that the past results don’t matter – it’s the Final Four and it is a new, entirely different game. His players have to appear hungry in the semifinal Thursday.
“In a Final Four, if you’re not hungry… What does it matter what’s happened before? You are in the Final Four. It’s a different match.
You must have that competitive hunger, regardless of who the rival is. The team must always play and be competitive, not depending on the rival.”
Real had several ups and downs during the season despite its strong start to the season. Real Madrid struggled as never before during March, downgrading from 2nd seed to 4th in the EuroLeague regular season.
They ended up 4th and faced Maccabi Tel Aviv in the playoffs. They swept the series to make their seventh EuroLeague Final-4 appearance in the last 11 years.
