Last year Olympiacos made a giant step forward to return to the European elite. Its second place in the regular season and the presence in Belgrade’s EuroLeague Final Four proved that the “Reds” were moving to the right direction.
As it seems, the team is willing to keep performing at the same high standards and the recent transfers are proving so.
After Tyler Dorsey’s decision to move to the USA once again and play for the Dallas Mavericks, Olympiacos had already a backup plan, signing Isaiah Canaan.
Canaan is far more athletic than Dorsey. Even though he can’t score easily when driving to the basket, he is a great spot shooter and can also hit three-pointers after dribbling.
The American guard is an average defender, but has the speed and the body structure to guard his opponents and avoid any miss-matches.

After the departure of Hassan Martin, who signed with Crvena Zvezda, the Greeks signed Joel Bolomboy from CSKA Moscow.
Checking his stats, he is considered an upgrade to the center position for the squad and he is expected to be the backup center.
A bigger body, more athletic and effective in pick and roll plays, Bolomboy has also improved his mid-range and three-point shots, offering extra weapons to the “Reds” frontline.

Last but not least, Olympiacos had to replace another club legend, Georgios Printezis. Fortunately for the Piraeus team Sasha Vezenkov will not join the Sacramento Kings and the star forward will remain in the roster.
Alec Peters has been selected to replace Printezis and Livio Jean-Charles, who has recently signed with CSKA Moscow. Peters is among other things an exceptional three-point shooter.
Checking Olympiacos’ roster for the 2022/2023 roster, I can clearly see an upgrade. Coach Bartzokas and his team have made very careful choices in order to blend with the rest of the team.
It can be clearly seen that the team will be more solid and far more unpredictable this year. With Sloukas’ keen eye and creativity and lots of threats in every corner of the court, Olympiacos will enter the season as one of the favorites to reach the Final Four.
