Olympiacos sweeps season series vs Zalgiris Kaunas to maintain top three push

Olympiacos rallied past Zalgiris Kaunas on the road (73-84) and made another step towards the home-court advantage.

The “Reds” used a strong fourth-quarter performance, which helped them take control and cruise to the victory.

Olympiacos improved to 17-10 in the standings and remained fourth. This was the fifth win in the last six EuroLeague games for the visitors. On the contrary, Zalgiris dropped to 7-21 and is still on the bottom.

Under the new standings, and with the Russian teams out of the competition, Olympiacos can climb to third. The Greek giants now hold a 16-8 record, whereas the Lithuanians are at 7-17.

MVP: Kostas Papanikolaou led the way in scoring with a season-high 18 points. Three more players scored in double figures for the winners.

Key to victory: Olympiacos opened the fourth quarter on a 2-11 run and never looked back (61-69). The “Reds” outscored their opponents 14-26 in the last part of the game and sealed the deal.

The three-time EuroLeague champions return home this week to face rivals Panathinaikos at Piece and Friendship Stadium.
