Nando De Colo is expected to skip Eurobasket 2022 and take a break from the national team to be ready for the World Cup and the 2024 Olympics, according to Arnaud Lecomte of the French newspaper L’Equipe.
“I had to do it for my family and me, in order to be present until the 2024 Olympics, with the desire to come back in the 2023 World Cup,” De Colo said to L’Equipe.
The veteran guard spoke with head coach Vincent Collet and the players about his decision a few months ago. De Colo has appeared in 10 international competitions with the French NT. He has been part of the team since 2008.
He only missed the 2014 World Cup due to suffering a broken finger a few days before the start of the competition. Having won five international medals and two EuroLeague titles (2016, 2019), De Colo will hope to finish his career with France in the Paris Olympics in 2024.
France won an Olympic medal last summer with De Colo leading the team in scoring and assists to help his team reach to the final.
“Last summer, it was incredible winning a medal at the end, but you spend two months without your family, and that’s what I need today,” the veteran Fenernahce star said.
