It was reported that UNICS Kazan forward Mario Hezonja has reached an agreement with Real Madrid for next season. The Croatian star has denied any link with the Spanish giants during an interview in the official website of the Russian club.
“Personally, I haven’t talked with anyone,” he said (h/t to Eurohoops). “I knew about such rumors following our elimination from EuroLeague. It seemed like multiple teams, including Final Four participants, showed interest to sign me for the remainder of the season or for the next season.”
The 27-year-old Croatian averaged 14.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 25 EuroLeague games with the club, before the EuroLeague made the decision to withdraw Russian teams from its competitions.
Hezonja started his career with Real’s arch-rivals FC Barcelona. He was part of the club from 2012 to 2015. He was the no.5 overall pick in the 2015 Draft, selected by the Orlando Magic.
For now, Hezonja is focused on finishing the season in Kazan, and he will think about his future in the summer.
“UNICS gave me a lot. This season, I was the leader. Therefore, as a leader, I couldn’t simply leave the club,” Hezonja stated, “We will see what happens in the summer. I haven’t negotiated with anyone and am fully focused on the series versus Lokomotiv Kuban.”
