Maccabi Tel-Aviv survived a late thriller over Baskonia at home (94-93) and returned to the winning track in the EuroLeague.
A three-pointer from Scottie Wilbekin in crunch time decided the outcome for the Israelis. Baskonia tried to ‘steal’ the victory, but missed its chance in the final seconds.
The hosts trailed by six after three quarters (71-77), but scored 23 points in the fourth and sealed the deal.
Ante Zizic and James Nunnally scored 21 points each for the winners, with Wilbekin adding 17. Wade Baldwin led all scorers with 27 points for the visitors, who missed another chance to come closer to the playoffs.
Interim coach Avi Even earned his first victory with Maccabi Tel-Aviv, which improved to 12-13 in the standings.
The hosts returned to the winning track after their blowout loss to Anadolu Efes (109-77). For its part, Baskonia dropped to 7-18 and is on the brink of elimination.
Maccabi Tel-Aviv would host Zenit Saint Petersburg on Thursday. However, the decision of the EuroLeague to suspend the Russian teams amid the Russia-Ukraine war has altered the schedule.
On the contrary, Baskonia will travel to Belgrade to face Crvena Zvezda on Thursday, March 3.
