Luka Doncic and Goran Dragic reunite in Slovenia NT to lead their team to victory over Croatia and advance to the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup European qualifiers, which will take place in August just before the 2022 EuroBasket.
Doncic had 21 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds while Dragic scored 19 points as Slovenia beat Croatia 97-69. Croatia fell behind 33-8 in the first quarter and wasn’t able to bounce back despite having several players available.
Bojan Bogdanovic, Mario Hezonja and Ivica Zubac played for the Croatian NT, but they weren’t enough against Luka Doncic and co. Mario Hezonja was the leading scorer for the losing side with 22.
Bojan Bogdanovic finished with 13, while Ivica Zubac had with 14 points and seven rebounds. Their team needs a home win over Finland on Saturday and also Slovenia to beat Sweden on the road to avoid elimination.
Aside from Dragic and Doncic, Slovenia’s center Mike Tobey finished with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Slovenia will conclude its presence in the first round against Sweden on Saturday.
