Liz Cambage officially parting ways with Los Angeles Sparks

Los Angeles Sparks big Liz Cambage is parting ways with the team as the LA frachise announced. This was Cambage’s first season in Los Angeles after returning to the WNBA to play for the Las Vegas Aces.

The dynamic center is a four-time WNBA All-Star (2011, 2018, 2019, 2021) and holds the WNBA single-game scoring record with 53 points (against New York on July 17, 2018).

Cambage has been averaging 13.0 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists thus far this season. The LA team is sixth in the WNBA standings with a 12-15 record hoping to return to the postseason this year.

The team will face the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday.

Per the team official statement:

The Los Angeles Sparks announced today the team has agreed to a contract divorce with center Liz Cambage.

“It is with support that we share Liz Cambage’s decision to terminate her contract with the organization,” Sparks Managing Partner Eric Holoman said. “We want what’s best for Liz and have agreed to part ways amicably. The Sparks remain excited about our core group and are focused on our run towards a 2022 playoff berth.”

Cambage, 30, was originally signed by the Sparks on Feb. 15 as a free agent. The 6-foot-9 center held averages of 13.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 25 games this season.

The Sparks next game is Thursday, July 28 on the road against the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. PT on CBS Sports Network.
